Thirty Days of Thanks Day 8: Comfy Spots (by guest blogger Jake)

Today’s Thankful For comes from guest blogger Jake down in Florida! Jake was adopted from Florida All Retriever Rescue & Friends (FARR) about 4 months ago. Many thanks from US to him and his mom for sharing their gratitude and love. If you would like to submit a Thankful For this Thanksgiving month, email faithtrustnpups@gmail.com
Hi! I’m Jake, an 8 month old Coonhound Shepherd mix. My mom and dad adopted me about 4 months ago and we all couldn’t be happier about it. We live in Florida, so unlike my friends, Ollie and Balton, I don’t have to wear puppy sweaters or warm blankets all winter. However, I happen to love a comfy bed, loving human or anything soft to snuggle up on… except when its really hot, then I’m thankful for my tile floor in the kitchen too.

I owe Mom and Dad many thanks for their willingness to always make me comfy. See, before I was adopted, I was in a shelter that didn’t have any comfy spots for me and this made me scared… of pretty much everything. So, when we got home and there were fluffy beds, blankets and towels for me to snuggle with I immediately felt safer and happy.
Now that I’ve been here a while and I’m part of the family, I’ve taken it upon myself to make a few of my own comfy spots around the house too. I really like laying on the window seat and snuggling in the curtains in Mom’s studio while she’s working. Every once in a while she leaves a pile of scrap fabric on the floor and I can’t resist the snuggle opportunity! I have a few more beds and pillows around the house now but my original bed I came home in and bed I sleep in at night is still my favorite.

So, I’m thankful for my comfy spots and for Mom and Dad letting me make myself feel at home… even if I get comfy in a spot I’m not really supposed to be in. 😉

Faith, Trust, & Foster Pups is a combination blog for animal welfare, humane education/positive training, recognizing the beautiful bond that exists between pets and their people, and other fun stuff. I share information about adoptable pets in the DC metro area, promote animal rescue and resources to support adopters and fosters, and share stories and lessons related to the dogs I care for. Much of my writing is for especially my "foster failure" with some specific fear-based issues. In an effort to help understand often wonderful, sometimes challenging dogs like him better, I learn to understand myself. Together, we share our stories, and walk together, leash in hand, and in building faith and trust within one another and within ourselves.
